Working With Us

WHAT IS IT LIKE TO GET FAR OUT?

“The Far Out thinking company is working towards great innovations to help our insect populations on UK farms, there knowledge of biodiversity and how to improve it is very promising for the possible collaborations that they can and could be involved with.”

Ross Robertson, Head of Mixed Farming (Agri-Tech), Agri-Epi Centre.Robin Jackson : Duchy College Agri-Tech Cornwall

The Agri-Tech Cornwall Project is delighted to have supported such an innovative company and the application of its technology to monitor and protect native bee populations

Jo Byrne: ESF Smart Specialisation Knowledge Exchange, Plymouth University

The Far Out Thinking Company has been engaged with the ESF Smart Specialisation project where we are working together not only to identify areas of support but also to sing the praises of the great work that they are undertaking. They are a fantastic, innovative company and are seeking to provide ‘smart’ ideas to some challenging situations. They have brought forward great project ideas which we are jointly progressing. It is a pleasure to work with such a responsive and creative company.

Stephen Fleming, Co- Editor Beecraft Magazine

Far Out Thinking’s work is is highly innovative and, in working directly with them, I have found them to be exceptionally talented and conscientious. I have been following their work for about two years and have been very impressed by their imaginative and practical approach to problem solving. As a former researcher and current co-editor of a beekeeping publication (BeeCraft), I have worked with them closely on the Isles of Scilly Game of Drones project and have therefore seen the quality of their work up close. In reporting terms, I keep abreast of their other work – on the waggle dance, pollinator seed initiatives, moth identification and Asian hornet sentinel tracking – and have been extremely impressed at the way they have been able to engage the interest and action of academic researchers and commercial organisations.

Grace Twiston-Davies, Environment and Sustainability Institute, University of Exeter

Far Out Thinking volunteered their expert knowledge and experience to the project, successfully conducting our pilot ‘mark-release-recapture’ experiment on Scilly this summer with our partners at Bee Craft magazine, Wildflower Collective CIC and Tresco estate. They were valuable in helping us to build trust through engagement with the community – this was instrumental in making our project successful.

Dr Lauren Ansel, Lecturer in Mathematical Sciences, University of Plymouth

I am working with the Far Out Thinking Company to develop a rewilding tracking tool. A key gauge of the health of an ecosystem is its biodiversity and an increase in biodiversity allows for a better survival rate should any of the species in the area come under threat. This application brings together data from a wide range of sources that have previously been found in isolation and will allow the user to interrogate the information in a variety of ways such as ensuring that pollinator species will have access to appropriate food plants throughout their flight period and that their larvae can enjoy the required resources or gaps within the range of pollinators to increase the biodiversity.

Verity Wilkinson ATI Cornwall, Business Advisor, University of Plymouth

Great to work with an inspiration business that is contributing towards a real change to the environment. The ATI internship programme has made such a positive contribution to the success of the business alongside the academic support from the University Of Plymouth. I look forward to seeing the development of the business and supporting Matthew and the team further.

Matthew Richardson, Mark Barnett and David Wragg, Beebytes Analytics CIC

Beebytes have enjoyed working with the Far Out Thinking Company, including a really exciting project looking at honey bee genetics in the Scilly Isles. We look forward to future developments and further partnerships working with DNA analysis of bees and pollen.

Andrew Brown, B4 Project

Matthew Elmes and the Far out Thinking Company has strength in its youthfulness and ability to empower the generation that follows them to inspire and implement their environmental dreams.

Jilly Halliday , Scillonian Bee Project

It’s a joy to work alongside The Far Out Thinking Company. This dynamic team of inspirational environmentalist scientists not only help, they come up with solutions for the industry and island community. They educate the public with factual, evolving and scientific data by turning it into accessible information.

James Fairburn, Aerospace Cornwall

You’ll struggle to find anyone as passionate about Bees as Matthew Elmes and the team at the Far Out Thinking Company. Bringing AI technology to the world of beehives is so left field, but that’s exactly what they have done. Amazing. AeroSpace Cornwall have funded TFOTC with a grant of £41,643 towards a project of £83,286.
